Annabel joined Halcrow in 2007 as a Transport Planner, after eight years at TRL. Annabel is currently working on the VIBAT-London project (Visioning and Backcasting for Transport in London, funded through the UrbanBuzz research programme), and she also organises transport planning graduate recruitment at Halcrow.

Annabel has extensive experience in bidding for and managing research projects for DfT, TfL, DFID and the World Bank. She has led on high profile projects for central, regional and local government, including the London Low Emission Zone Equality Impact Assessment for TfL, and the Manual for Streets (Annabel led the research element of MfS) for DfT. She was also lead researcher in the DFID funded Knowledge and Research project developing a 'Policy Toolkit for Increased Rural Mobility' which included implementation of quantitative and participatory surveys in Zambia and Cameroon, and for the 'Framework for the Inclusion of Social Benefits in Transport Planning'.

She has worked extensively on transport research projects in developing and developed countries and provides advisory support on Sustainable Livelihood Approaches and social inclusion. She has an interest in the social impacts of transport services and infrastructure, including social exclusion effects, community severance, streetscape and public realm, community participation. She completed a part time PhD in 2004 on 'Relationships between transport, sustainable livelihoods and social capital for poverty reduction' which explored the accessibility needs and constraints of poor people in Zambia, Cameroon and Kenya.

She completed a part time PhD in 2005, looking at the contribution of Sustainable Livelihood Approaches to the effectiveness of transport planning in developing countries, at the Centre for International Development and Training, University of Wolverhampton. Her thesis emphasises the use of transport in social trip making and the importance of accessibility and mobility for maintenance of social networks.

Annabel was Team Leader within the Sustainable Communities Group and a Research Fellow at TRL. She is a member of the Transport Planning Society, and is an Association for Project Management qualified Project Manager. She is a frequent speaker at conferences and has published widely on transport, social inclusion and sustainability issues.
