Dr Robin Hickman

Robin is an Associate Director and Transport Planner at Halcrow with wide experience in transport planning, policy research and strategy, urban planning and the project management of major multi-disciplinary studies. He leads the transport research sector at Halcrow.

Robin has authored or co-authored a number of policy research/transport strategy studies, including:

He has given evidence to the House of Commons Environmental Audit Committee on Transport and Global Warming and lectures on transport planning and contemporary cities at UCL. He is a Research Fellow on the UrbanBuzz programme (see www.urbanbuzz.org).

He has project managed and contributed to a number of transport planning studies including the Thames Gateway Integrated Land Use and Transport Study (for TfL, LDA and GLA); the Scottish Transport Strategy Options Appraisal (Scottish Executive); Canning Town and Royal Docks Strategic Development Options Appraisal (GLA and TfL); City East Highway Modelling (GLA and TfL); London Sub-Regional Development Frameworks Transport Problems and Opportunities (TfL); and Shipbourne A227 Streetscape Design (Kent AONB Unit).

Robin has led or contributed to a number of urban planning and transport masterplanning studies, including multi-disciplinary master planning work in Cambridge Northern Fringe; Cambridge Eastern Expansion; Brixham Harbour Masterplan; and Coatesville Main Street Revitalisation (USA); and sub-regional planning strategies in West Yorkshire and Peterborough-Cambridge. He has provided sustainable transport planning expertise for masterplans in Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft; Harlow; South West Canvey; Camborne, Pool and Redruth; Park Royal (West London); Bermondsey Spa (London Bridge); Walker Riverside Masterplan; and Merseytram (Liverpool).

Robin was previously at Llewelyn Davies Yeang and Surrey County Council and completed his PhD in Transport Planning Studies at the Bartlett School of Planning, UCL in 2007. His research topic was “Reducing Travel by Design: A Micro Analysis of New Household Location and the Commute to Work in Surrey”. He is a frequent speaker at conferences on transport and planning issues and has authored numerous articles, book chapters and conference papers.
